The fabulous history of tracks |
Your students will identify the trees of Gatineau Park by various means, including a dichotomous key, on one of the Park's trails, which we'll recommend according to the age of your students.
They'll learn how trees make their own food, what their roles are, and some interesting facts about how they're used by humans. What is photosynthesis? Why don't conifers lose their needles? |
Winter is a real challenge for all the Park's animals, plants and trees. They all adopt very specific strategies to survive these long winter months.
Some migrate, others stock up on food. The best-known technique is hibernation, but there are others. Do bears hibernate? Where are frogs in winter? |
Animals leave traces of their passage. But do you have the sharp eye to see them?
Embark on this fabulous adventure to learn how to interpret tracks, especially in winter. Tracks can be left on the ground or on trees. Students will learn to differentiate between the footprints of the Park's most common animals. They'll try to reproduce their movements to understand their anatomy. You'll never go out in our beautiful Park in the same way again. |

Amphibians of Gatineau Park
During this one-hour activity, your students will learn to differentiate between the amphibians of Gatineau Park, thanks to their size, colors and, above all, their respective songs. An activity that will delight young and old alike. You'll also learn why we monitor these animals especially at the end of winter.
