The park offers magnificent and diverse trails whose maintenance largely depends on volunteers who support the efforts of Park management. From mid-May to mid-October, our volunteers “adopt” a trail that they will walk every two weeks. They verify the state of the trail and report their observations. Not only does this program ensure secure access to pleasant trails, it also encourages hikers to stay on the marked trails thus avoiding use of non-official trails which could put certain flora and fauna at risk. Are you a volunteer who is already participating in this program? You will find forms and other tools here. You are not yet enrolled to this program yet want to help the Park and adopt a trail? CITIZEN SCIENCE PROGRAM
For several years, the Friends of Gatineau Park have been connecting hard-working volunteers with scientists running research projects in the Park, but, since 2018, we officially have a Citizen Science program (a collaboration with the NCC)!
The participants to this program survey species of interest and the information is supplied to the NCC. Hence, they can have fun methodically observing nature while contributing to science and park management! Reports will also be published when possible.
We provide much needed eyes and ears on the ground!
